Salmon Fishing on Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls couldn?t be a much better spectacle. Easily rivaling the Victoria for its sheer scope and power, the Niagara Falls provides around 4.4 gigawatts of electricity enough to provide for a small to medium sized city and a scenic spectacle to those that view its natural beauty.

Niagara Falls is one of the longest standing natural wonders of the world, absolutely. A view of the Horseshoe Falls would definitely silence the critics. However, a recent favorite that kept on drawing visitors to this place may not be the Niagara Falls with its entire splendor. And the candidate is salmon fishing on Niagara.

Truth to tell, while northern anglers flock to the British Columbia and Kenai in Alaska, Central and South American anglers head to the Great Lakes to book for fishing trips. Niagara Falls might be a dying industrial town, but heck, it is one massive and energetic fishing community.

Salmon fishing on Niagara Falls is as much attraction as the Maid of the Mist and Journey behind the Falls, both of whom are equally pursued. While seasonal salmon runs would only allow the most rewarding fishing on May and June, there are several salmon species that are non-migratory, such as several river trout and rainbow trout.

Living in the United States allows many interesting boons. One of them is accessibility year round to the great Lakes. Off season or on season, you can always do salmon fishing on Niagara Falls.

Need ideas for salmon fishing on Niagara Falls? I have several. Check on these ideas and see if they are appealing to you.

In Youngstown, New York is a historical adventure as well as a fishing one. It?s worth 300 years of history. So why not lodge on some historical inns at Youngstown and spend some time exploring the area while doing some quality salmon fishing on Niagara Falls, of course.

I would highly recommend The River Loft for a place to stay. The setting of the place would gear your mood up for fishing if nothing else does.

Need the services of a skilled guide? You could also arrange a trip with Mr. Grant Koppers of Sports Fishing Niagara. That would be one remarkable arrangement, that guy?s ability to sniff out salmon and trout are known in the vicinity. And Mr. Ace can give you several pointers before the start of the day, if you wish. http://www.goingfishingtv.com

St. Catharine is another Niagara destination worthy of an angler?s attention. Coho, Chinook, Rainbow trout, Walleye, and several Bass are game fishes that ply the waters near St. Catharine.

Under Cottonwoods: A Novel of Friendship, Fly Fishing, and Redemption

Under Cottonwoods: A Novel of Friendship, Fly Fishing, and Redemption

Under Cottonwoods is a lyrical novel of two Wyoming friends who are drawn together by their love of fly fishing and the outdoors. Walter is a handsome young man whose face and brain are scarred as a result of a climbing accident that has left him partially paralyzed and mentally diminished. Mike, who lost both of his parents when he was a young teen, is in his own way as handicapped as Walter. Mike seems at first to be the stronger, compassionately lending a hand to an unfortunate friend, but it’s soon clear that each is giving the other something priceless: the insight and courage to challenge the odds, embrace reality, and find a way to flourish and grow. Through quiet times on pristine streams, dangerous times on angry rivers, and the daily grind of a life of diminished expectations, the men grow stronger as their friendship deepens. With Mike’s help, Walter reestablishes a bond with his father and dares to chance romance, while Mike, with Walter’s constant encouragement and astute observations, makes peace with his wife.

Stephen Grace’s exploration of life after tragedy, is a perfect blend of humor and compassion rare in a first--or any--contemporary novel.

Cowboy Trout: Western Fly Fishing As If It Matters

Cowboy Trout: Western Fly Fishing As If It Matters

Fly fishing intersects western history in so many ways that it is surprising that more writers--besides historians--have not sensed its rhetorical and scholarly opportunities. As fly fishing's practitioners grow in economic power, political reach, ecological awareness, and clarity of need, those intersections will only become more compelling.

In the fine tradition of angling books that celebrate fly fishing for the way it invites readers into unfettered ecological settings and connects them to the wonder of rivers, Paul Schullery's masterful Cowboy Trout raises to a new level of power the old saying that there is more to fishing than the catching of fish. The heightened sense of a wild place--not merely of the water but of a whole landscape-has turned out to be fly fishing's greatest gift to the West and to those who pursue fish in its rugged embrace.

Fishing For Peacock Bass in the Amazon

These are some of the things we saw and did while fishing for peacock bass on the Nanay River. I wish I could show you the pink river dolphins, the strangler fig, the red spotted green discus, the big fish that got away.

We began our adventure expedition in the riverboat, Dawn on the Amazon, at the confluence of the Nanay and the Amazon River, departing Iquitos, Peru, at first light.

We motored upstream past Padre Cocha, home of the wonderful Pilpintuwasi Butterfly Farm we had visited the day before. Past Santo Tomas, the Iquitos waterworks, Llanchama, the Allpahuayo-Mishana Reserve, and eventually the village of Santa Maria, last outpost of civilization.

In Santa Maria the electrical generator is turned on at 7:00 p.m. and turned off at 10:00 p.m. The beer is always skunked. Very few people live in the jungle upstream of Santa Maria.

As we fished our way upstream it was as if we were going back in time to a way of life that disappeared in most of the world over one hundred years ago. We were sport fishing, everyone else was survival fishing. Four days and three hundred kilometers later we realized we were sport fishing for survival, living on what we caught.

To do it like a native, we would have had a fire platform on a sand base and cooked yucca and fish over a charcoal fire. We used a Coleman stove and supplemented yucca with rice and potatoes and ripe, juicy, tropical fruit. With a glass or two of wine from Chile.

Over the course of time, as the Nanay River meandered through the rainforest for thousands of years, many of the ox-bow bends were cut from the original stream bed by the annual floods. These natural banana shaped lakes are called cochas. It is in the black tannic acid water of the cochas, that we sought the holy grail of sport fishing, the peacock bass.

In a lifetime of fishing, only a few days stand out from all the rest as distinctly memorable. One of those days occurred on this voyage. I only caught three peacock bass that day, but fought several big, fierce, toothy fazaco for hours.

I caught five of the largest fazaco I have ever caught on six consecutive casts during part of the feeding frenzy. I was exhausted. The fishing was so great we decided to stay and fish that cocha again the next day and never got a bite.

Our catch for the trip was 140 peacock bass, but we lost count of the fazaco, black piranha, pike cichlid, acarahuasu, and other species. I am guessing they totaled two or three times the number of peacocks.

The most productive lures were spinner baits, in line spinners, and Excalibur's Pop'n-Image, in that order. We fished the Pop'n Image hard in two colors. The blue shade caught fish, the green shade never caught one.

As always the peacock bass relates to cover. Find submerged timber in the shade, and make several casts around it. Spinner baits are good to search the thick cover with because they do not get hung up very often and can be fished faster than many lures.

One way to catch peacock bass is to find where they are feeding. Listen for their distinctive splashing sounds and watch for them to follow your lure back to the canoe. Once you find fish, slow down, make more casts, try different lures.

Start out slow and quiet. If that does not work switch to a popper, chugger, rattle, or propeller bait. The native fishermen slap the water with their poles or paddles before they give up on a place. When in Rome, do as the Romans.

In my opinion, inch for inch and pound for pound, the peacock bass is the hardest fighting fresh water fish I have ever encountered. I also believe the peacock bass is one of the smartest and most difficult species of fish to catch, especially in the high-water months from November to May.

For the novice piker, there is a treasure trove of knowledge and advice; for the expert, there are scores of tips for refining technique, and ultimately, for putting more fish in the net.

Bass Fishing Tips

Bass fishing is a good way to spend your free time, check your skills and finally spend some time outdoors. Sooner or later, however, you might want to actually catch something, spending days on a boat doing nothing gets tiresome after some time. If you want to catch bass fish instead of only going fishing for them, there are some tips below that should help you both in that and in keeping your style.

1. Keep your feet dry. Seal skin socks and a waterproof pair of shoes are must-haves. It will help you a lot, especially if you need to push your boat. Wet feet will spoil the day and will make you think about them instead of bass fish.

2. Keep your rods in a good shape. Use a simple prep pad for cleaning the cork handles on the rod. If the cork is very dirty, it makes your rods look awful. To change it, use a light grade sand paper in order to sand the cork handles. This should be enough to make your rod look and handle like a brand new one.

3. High tech stuff helps. Such things as PDAs are extremely helpful. Logging the conditions, making a "before you go" checklist and storing the useful numbers of other bass fishermen are a good way to increase your fishing comfort AND your results.

4. Prepare yourself. Remember to take spare parts while going fishing sooner or later something WILL break down.

5. Take spare batteries. This will make your life easier and greatly increase your safety.

6. Organize the fishing. Make notes, buy fishing magazines and pay attention to other fishermen.

7. There are a lot of novice anglers who keep forgetting about checking the wheel bearings on the trailers. If you don't do it every springs, expect a serious accident soon.

8. Casting. Bait casting equipment should be cast overhand.

9. Graphite rods. Pay attention to what happens to them - the biggest killer of graphite rods is hitting it against something hard. While it does not break in that spot right away, this creates a weak spot at that point and may end in a rod breaking up for no apparent reason a few months later. Remember about that when storing rods for travel. Make sure the parts of the deck aren?t rapping against the rod while you're moving to your position. In case you use a locker, strap them or put them in a horizontal position, and generally, keep them out of the harm's way by preventing the rod's parts from hitting each other.

Turning Fishing From A Sport... To A Dream - The Eagle FishElite 480

The Eagle 480 takes the sport of fishing and turns it into a technological dream. With the highly usable features on board this system, you are sure to not only locate and bring in your fish but also to impress your friends with your new toy. Let's get right to the features as the Eagle 480 has many to talk about.

We'll start with the display and sonar. The 480 offers an LCD five inch diagonal screen. It is displayed in high definition 480x480 resolution. The screen and the keypad have a backlight to allow for fishing in dark hours of the days as well. What you get in this display is a good looking, 16 level grayscale that will provide for you a good, black and white picture of the bottom and of the waters below. When your sonar beams back to your boat, you'll have a clear enough picture to understand what's there and to bring it in.

The sonar is also high quality. In fact, you can digitally record and play sonar graphs and GPS trip details with its memory cards. The sonar has a depth of 800 feet which is great for most lakes. It has a high performance transducer which can detect some of the smallest items even while your boat is cruising at 70 miles per hour. Why is this good? It gives you all the details. What's below you? Where is it hiding? It will tell you where the bottom is and where the fish is and it will tell you with details what your fish is up to. All this helps you to tailor your bait and cast so that you can bring home lots of fish every time.

Imagine knowing what fish are below you.. It takes the frustrating guesswork out of fishing. There's no guarantee of a big catch, but with the Eagle Fish Elite it's close.

But, that is not all the Eagle 480 has to offer. Is also comes with pretty powerful GPS + WAAS technology. That means it will help you get out to your hotspot, help you to find a new one and will help you get back home without getting lost. Imagine finding those hidden coves anywhere the fish are simply teaming!

You can do all of this with the FishElite 480.

Trout Fishing Secrets

Dear Friend,

If you are sick and tired of coming home from fishing trips empty handed, having to eat fast food instead of delicious steamed trout, then this will be the most important message you read today.

Let me tell you why:

There is more to fishing than you might have first thought. To be more precise, there's more to the fish themselves and how they think, than you would have ever even considered.

Understanding How Fish Think Is
The Key To Successful Fishing!

Admittedly this message is quite long, but by the end of it you'll have discovered more secrets to fishing for trout than you can poke a rod at. It will be worthwhile for you I promise.

But I should introduce myself first. My name is Nick Anikijenko, and I have been an angler now for 23 years. At the tender age of 10 I made my first cast and I've been in love with the sport ever since.

I've done it all from bay fishing to stream fishing, but it was 11 years ago that I was introduced to spinner fishing for Trout. I was hooked! -- I literally have not fished any other way since.

When I go out, I catch a fish on every single trip. In fact, I'm much closer to cracking-the-code on catching a trout with...

Every Single Cast!

I don't have a 100% cast to catch success rate, but I'm damn close. Even the people I have taught have had incredible success. I recently went fishing with a good friend's wife, who had never even touched a rod before. She caught a trout on her very first fishing trip!

So I know what I'm doing. What's really going to help you, is why I can get this kind of success. That's what this website is really about. Helping you to get the same success when fishing for trout.

Like I said earlier, Trout Fishing really started for me about 11 years ago when my Father-In-Law took me out spinner fishing. And this was real spinner fishing, where you hike all day to different spots along a river.

It was fantastic, my idea of fishing heaven, except for one thing. You see, I have never had any trouble catching fish in the bay. And I loved the peace and tranquility of fishing along a beautiful river.

But it was much harder to catch a wild river trout!

I tried in vain for dozens of trips - testing different lures, trying different rivers, changing the color of the line - still no trout. Nothing to speak of anyway.

I was not used to this so I decided to do something about it. Going out into the bush like that reminded me of my days hunting wild boars. When you hunt for wild boars, and any other animal for that matter, you've got some set rules to follow if you expect to have any success at all. One of those rules stuck in my mind:

You Have To Know
How The Animal Thinks.

After many unsuccessful trout fishing expeditions, I was asking myself a lot of questions. It seemed unusual at the time, but I one day wondered if the rules for hunting would somehow help with Trout Fishing. The rules were obvious to hunters, but no fisherman I had ever met even mentioned that kind of thing in relation to fish.

So I hit the books.

I decided that I would understand how a trout thinks, and see if I could increase my chances of success. Being a fairly studious type of person, it didn't take me long to devour every book I could get my hands on from the local bookstore and the library. Within a week I knew more about Trout than 99.9% of the world's population. And guess what happened on the next fishing trip...

Bingo! A Bag full of Trout!

And it seemed too easy. It was as if the world's tallest mountain had just became a speed bump. What was annoyingly difficult and frustrating was suddenly made simple. My studies had instantly paid off.

Understanding how Trout think, what scares them, what motivates them, when they feed, when they travel, and a host of other factors really is essential if you want to catch lots of fish consistently.

Luckily for you, I've captured the essence of my fishing expertise into a Book, which is titled "How To Catch A Trout Every Time - When Spinner Fishing Your Favorite Stream Or River."

This book is quite literally the bible of Trout Fishing. If you're new to fishing or semi-experienced, you'll immediately improve your chances of catching fish each time you go after reading the book.

Fly Fishing Gear

Fly Fishing is one of the fastest growing sports in the last ten years. Many practitioners of the sport look at it almost as a science. It is not as simple as just taking a rod and reel out to a lake and waiting for the fish to bite, it is all about proper using the techniques and choosing the appropriate gear.

There are some steps that should be taken when one is buying fly fishing gear that make it easier to choose among the thousands of products offered. Experienced fly fishers will emphasize the importance of having a good relationship with the staff of the fly fishing gear shop. In such a profit-oriented economy, shops that try to pressure people into making them buy all sorts of unnecessary equipment should be avoided.

Basic rod and reel sets are the best for novice fishers. It is also important for beginners to buy a good pair of waders that will be comfortable and will keep warm in water. Usually, high-end rods and reels made of top quality material are reserved for advanced fly fishers, so beginners should learn the sport with less expensive equipment. Novice fishers should mainly look to improve technique and should start with basic gear, only after that should they search for better equipment.

The best fly fishing gear is completely subjective, varying from one person to the next and from one location to another. People should first seek advice and experiment on their own in order to being able to fly fish properly. Almost every successful man or woman that practices this sport has his or her own secrets and special techniques that work for them. Every successful fly fisher is different and uses different fly fishing gear that is appropriate to their technique of casting and style.

The first series of open fishing boats was developed in 1974. They ranged from 4.8 m (16 ft) to 9 m (30 ft) for use in inshore and coastal fishery. They were initially utilizing the local timber of standard commercial sizes. Planking was done with boards of uniform width to simplify building and reduce wastage. The hull shape was well adapted to economical, low powered engines. In the current scenario, plywood has maintained its role as a material well adapted to use in small-scale boat building.

Most fishermen these days prefer long and slender canoe-shaped boats, as the longer boats reach a higher speed with a small engine than a short, fat boat. A certain beam will be required for a satisfactory stability. However, because of the sharp bow, the longer hulls have very low resistance in waves.

There are a wide variety of fishing boats available. Some of the most popular ones are the all-purpose fishing boats, aluminum fishing boats, bass fishing boats, bay fishing boats, canoes, kayaks and drift fishing boats, catamarans, multihulls (that run with power), center console fishing boats, cuddy cabin fishing boats, deck fishing boats, and diesel motors. Some of the fishing boats that can be used for recreational purposes are fish and ski boats, flats fishing boats, inboard/outboard fishing boats, inboards and I/0, and outboard fishing boats. Luxury fishing boats include outboard motors, pontoon fishing boats, and sport fishing yachts.

Fishing boats can be rented along with the fishing equipment. The fishing captains are usually friendly and are often bilingual. For people who prefer bottom fishing boats, their experienced captains can take them to the best fishing spots for snapper, roosterfish, sea bass, and grouper.

The Year of the Angler and the Year of the Trout: Tales of Fly Fishing, Rivers, the Environment, and Life

The Year of the Angler and the Year of the Trout: Tales of Fly Fishing, Rivers, the Environment, and Life

The Year of the Angler and The Year of the Trout have long been underground classics, the kind of books used-book sellers can’t keep in stock, the ones its owners won’t loan out. Now they’re back in print, under one cover.

Arnold Gingrich, the fly-fishing maven and editor of Esquire, ranked Steve Raymond with the great fishing writers, and Gingrich knew writers and good writing. So great is its reputation, that a copy of The Year of the Angler was presented to the White House by the American Booksellers Association.

Raymond fishes Western waters, particularly the Northwest. Here are accounts of adventures on the Hoh, the Duwamish, the North Fork of the Stillaguamish, the Hanford Reach of the Columbia, Pass Lake, and Columbia Basin Pond. Here, too, are affectionate portraits of the great fish of those waters, the sea-run cutthroat, salmon, steelhead, rainbow, and brown trout.
And solid advice on catching them. Raymond tells stories, too, of men like John Huelsdonk, the Iron Man of the Hoh, who killed one hundred cougars.

As much as it is a book about fish and rivers, it is also a book about life, about the passage of time, the seasons, man and his place in the environment, family, pain and pleasure. Truly a classic, The Year of the Angler and the Year of the Trout will find a place on every serious angler’s shelf, if only to replace one imprudently loaned to a friend.

Fishing (Bulging Pocket Dictionary)

Fishing (Bulging Pocket Dictionary)
One of the most popular books ever published on the art of angling looks irreverently at the fishing life, from hook-"An irritating but highly reliable device used to quickly and precisely locate the position of one's thumb at the bottom of a tackle box"--to line--"Length of long, thin, strong synthetic material stretched between two fishing rods and joined at its midpoint by a pair of linked hooks"--to sinker--"A lead weight in any of a variety of shapes and sizes attached to lines or terminal tackle to facilitate the speedy disposal of unwanted lures."
